Why a Personal Trainer? Choosing the Right Personal Trainer. (Exercise & Well Being)

If you want to lose weight, get healthy, change your body composition and build lean muscle and make important lifestyle changes, then hiring a personal trainer can be a step in the right direction to accomplish your goals effectively, safely and at a more rapid pace than you could ever do on your own.

A good trainer can help you set up a program that meets your health & fitness goals, teach you the most effective and the safest way to exercise. Here's what you should know when you are considering hiring a personal trainer:

A personal trainer should be well educated and all though certification through a qualified fitness organization is a plus (at the Fitness Underground-Los Angeles our trainers are certified through the American Council of Exercise - ACE), something has to be said for their "personal experience and athletic-training" backgrounds. I think sometimes this is over-looked. (For example, my 15 years plus experience as a Martial Artist & Kickboxer, my years of being a high level competitive athlete in college and my time spent with USCF – United States Cycling Federation have all made me a much better personal trainer.)

Just because a trainer has completed the set courses for certification, it doesn't always mean that they are good trainers.(Although I know many who are!) However,  I've seen many trainers that have the paperwork but are seriously lacking the proper personality, the right vibe, the correct drive or the passion for what they are doing.

It is my belief that a (quality) personal trainer's job is more than just counting sets & reps for you and once in a while say "push it" or "great job."

As a trainer, my job is to assess (and regularly assess) your current fitness level, discuss and fully understand your fitness goals (so I can design a personal program that matches your needs), to educate you in many different areas so you can make the important life changing (some times life saving) fitness and lifestyle adjustments to help you get in shape (stay in shape) and live a fuller, longer and healthier life.

In addition, as a trainer I have to hold you accountable (as I do myself) and give you a reason to show up for training each week.

It's also my job as a personal trainer to take great pride in being a fitness professional, to really care about you and be involved, to stay engaged and to keep you motivated while I track your progress. It's also my job to be honest with you, to advise you that there is "no magic pill or quick fix", that there is no substitute for the hard work you are facing, but to also advise you how "great and wonderful" the rewards will be!

Most important, it's my job as a personal trainer to keep it interesting and FUN, as we work together towards reaching your highest fitness goals.
